Top Tips on creating a healthy mindset!
Yoga has been proven over the years to have incredible benefits for the body, but also, and perhaps more importantly nowadays - for the mind!
Mental health has never before been so prominent in our lives, and a subject so widely discussed as it now. For something that was once a bit of a taboo subject, the likes of Naomi Osaka, Simone Biles and Adam Petty have broken down any barriers that there may have been, having all recently spoken out about mental health, and how important it is to them as athletes to protect theirs, when it comes to the pressure of competitions under a media spotlight.
So how can stretching help with mental health you ask? Well my friends, i'm going to let you in on a little secret ..yoga is not just physical, and here's how we think it could help you live a life more focussed on nourishing the mind!

Intention setting
Setting intentions is something you might hear a lot about at the start of a yoga class. Sankalaps - intentions/resolves are something that should be positive and true. They should come from a place of wanting change and knowing that it could happen, a place of self belief, rather than coming from a place of fear.
Quite often in life we can be quite negative about ourselves, and the way you speak to yourself sticks. If we can easily believe the negative imagine what it would be like if you could say and believe some positives about yourself.
Just by acknowledging you need to change something or wanting to change something, is the start of a journey, it might not happen by the end of the day but you’re on that path to positivity.
Affirmations
Once you’ve set your intentions, then it’s about affirming them in your mind.
When you set an affirmation you’re affirming somethings thats real, or that already exists within you. Affirmations help with the process of change.
For example:
Intention - I am going to only think good things about myself
Affirmation - I am a good person
Intention - I am going to love myself unconditionally
Affirmation - I am love
Intention - I intend to manifest happiness
Affirmation - I am happy

Creating a good mindset
- Some other simple ways you can create a good mindset is:
- Plan your week, less chance for rushing and stressing. Food, clothes, going to yoga, children activities, walking the dog ..plan it all in!
- Create time for yourself, even if it’s 5mins at the start of each day for some quiet time, maybe even mediation.
- Eat well. See last weeks blog on Gut Health for how!
- Sleep well. Sleep is so important. Getting better sleep is said to be more beneficial than exercise!
