How to boost your mood this Autumn!

‘I think I feel a change in the wind says I’ - Mr. Gibb, Pirates of the Caribbean (The Curse of the Black Pearl)

Anyone else feeling a nip in the air? I’ve noticed that even though Autumn officially started just over two weeks ago here in the UK, that it's only been during this last week we’ve experienced a real shift to much more Autumnal weather. We’ve had blustery breezes and lashings of rain! The leaves are starting to turn and fall, and conversations have changed from summer trips to, ‘what are you dressing up as for Halloween?", and ‘have you started your Christmas shopping yet?’

For some people, this can create a real dip in mood, whether it be because of the colder weather, or worrying about affording Christmas, or maybe all those resolutions and plans that had been set for this year haven’t quite materialised.

What can you do to boost your mood in Autumn?

If you are someone who struggles at this time of year, don’t worry, you’re not alone ..some things we find help is to talk to friends or family. Send more messages, pick up the phone and check in. They’re likely to feel the same way, and if not it might offer you the pick me up you need just to chat to them.

Treat yourself to your favourite hot drink with friends or family ..or just by yourself, have a few moments just for you!

Light the fire, pick your favourite film and snacks ..snuggle down on the sofa and enjoy!

Get up early, and go for a brisk walk to blow the morning cobwebs away and watch the sun rise over those autumnal trees.

Do you ever stretch and feel like you’ve pulled your whole life together? ..we do, all the time! Yoga can help you feel physically and mentally better, it releases endorphins and allows you the time to still external thoughts and focus just on you and your breath.

Speaking of breath, meditation and pranayama are two techniques that can really help you to feel better. Taking just 5 minutes each morning to focus on just your inhale and exhale can really improve your mood. If you're not sure how, check out two of our previous blogs on these subjects. Learn How to Meditate and What is Pranayama?

Autumn is also a time for change. As we approach the end of the year it’s a time to forget about what hasn’t happened and focus on the future and what you can do, or want to do and go for it!! Start 2022 how you mean to go on ..change in lifestyle, change in career, or just a mindset change, ..be that cup half full person in life!

Here’s some other reasons we think this time of year is great!

Autumn is the season of colour! So much colour! Beautiful oranges, red and crimson leaves filling the trees and then eventually, falling and covering the fields and pavements like a beautiful Autumn blanket.

Pumpkin Spiced Lattes!! ..(not everyones top choice, but we feel still a valid point nonetheless!)

Cosy nights in, in-front of the fire!

You get to dig out all your favourite thick woolly jumpers! ..and eat a little more than usual maybe, ..well no one’s going to notice under that jumper are they!

Speaking of eating ..homemade soups and stews are back on the menu!

Wrapping up for a breezy stroll and coming home with rosey cheeks!

Better sleep without all that summer heat.

All the good TV programmes are back! - Bake Off, Strictly and I’m a Celeb (again not everyones first choices we know ..but again, valid nonetheless!)
