What's life like after Yoga Teacher Training?

As online training providers of yoga teacher training courses, we get a lot of questions quite often about 'how can I fit training in', 'what happens when it’s finished', 'am I good enough to do it?' So we thought we’d ask someone who started training with us back in March 2020 about what life was like for her before and after, and why she chose us to train with - some of you may know her now as your student mentor Toni.

Q1 What were you doing before your teacher training and what made you decide to start training?

Before I started my yoga teacher training, I wasn’t actually working, but my career previously was the national makeup artist for a huge fashion and makeup company. I worked in that position for 20yrs but stopped when my husband started to work overseas. It solved some childcare issues during school holidays anyway and I could be a gym bunny during the day. I started practising yoga there and was fascinated to learn more, and often thought ‘I could teach that!’ ..and I suppose that’s when the thought process really started, about looking to train as a yoga teacher.

Q2 What made you choose yogacourse.com over other training courses you found?

Due to my interest in starting a training course, for Christmas 2019 my husband booked me a 200hr YTT in Bali for the Spring of the following year …cut to March 2020 and lockdown, my flights got cancelled one by one and then my course too. At this point, I thought it wasn’t meant to be, but out shopping one day I picked up the Om magazine, turned the cover and there was the lovely Rach Park with an advert for online teacher training …over coffee I dropped into conversation with my husband the article I’d found, and how amazing it would be in the middle of a global pandemic to still be able to train, from home and completely in my own time. He told me to go for it! So my 200hr started over the first lockdown.

Q3 How long did it take you to qualify?

It took me 5 months to complete my 200hr training and after that, I wanted more, so went on to continue into the 300hr training and completed that in around 4 months.

Q4 What was the biggest change in your life after qualifying?

Well, there were two. First I managed to convince my husband to convert our garage to a yoga studio with the intention to teach one to one, but I also approached Rach and Kelly to see if there were any roles within the yogacourse.com family available or perhaps in the future, maybe with homework marking. After a lengthy chat with Rach, she explained there was a role missing from the team in terms of a student mentor ..someone to support individuals in taking that leap into learning or helping current students who may have hit a wall with their training, or who are stuck on something specific - I thought this sounded like the perfect role, helping others to start their journey or continue their journey into the wonderful world of teaching yoga! Obviously, for others, it means they can add teaching to their monthly income, or perhaps for some, it can now be their main income stream as many begin their journey into being self-employed teachers once completing. The world really is your oyster with this qualification as it's recognised globally.

Q5 What would be your advice to someone wanting to start teacher training?

If you want to be a yoga teacher - do it! Follow your heart! yogacourse.com is a chance to make those teaching dreams a reality!

Q6 What would you say to someone who thought they weren't good enough at yoga to do a teacher training course?

Teaching yoga isn’t about physically doing yoga. You don’t need to be able to do a handstand to teach one. There’s also a lot more to yoga than just the physical postures on the mat. You are definitely good enough if you have the passion, yogacourse.com will give you the knowledge and tools to succeed!

Q7  What would you say to someone who thought they didn't have the time?

Time ..well we can all use that as a mental hurdle but think about it, we can all find a little time for the things we love, so if yoga is your passion you will make time. This training is self-paced and so you can study as little or as often as you can, you are in control of when you choose to train and when you don’t. You really are in charge of your own destiny. It was the best decision I ever made.
