Difference Between 200hr & 300hr Online Yoga Teacher Training

If you want to teach yoga today, 200hr teacher training is a fairly standard foundation. Our course is designed to prepare your body and mind for passing on the magic of yoga to others. It combines knowledge of the poses, as well as some essential anatomy, how to prepare classes and other steps towards being ready to teach. At least that's what we know is involved on paper, but what is the reality of a 200hr yoga teacher training course really like?

Learning the theory

The best yoga teachers have a deep understanding of the human body and of yoga itself, this is why our 200hr teacher training includes a significant amount of theory. You can expect to delve deep into yoga philosophy, looking at the Bhagavad Gita, the 8 Limbs of Yoga and Chakras, as well as some intensive study of anatomy too. You will also look at sequencing classes together working to themes or peak poses, alongside learning Sun Salutations, giving you an incredible foundation of knowledge to begin your teaching journey confidently and safely.

Practical training

When you come to teach yoga there will of course be times where you will need to demonstrate for your visual learners and to support beginners - some poses can be tricky for people to understand from even the best teaching cues.

It’s also vital you can teach and demonstrate - it requires a certain level of fitness to be able to do this for an hour's class, particularly if you’re planning on teaching strong or fast-paced classes.

Therefore having your own regular physical practice is important, and why most teacher training (ours included), requires you to attend a certain amount of classes over the course of your training period. These hours of practicing will form part of your 200hrs worth of training.

This isn’t the only reason though - teacher training is hard, and there’s a lot to take in and learn, so it’s important to remember yourself during the process and continue to carve out time for yourself. The classes you attend don’t all have to be hardcore vinyasa style classes, Yin, Nidra, and Restorative are all styles of yoga and all accepted as part of your practicing hours.

The emotional impact

The one aspect of yoga teacher training that many people don’t anticipate is often the emotional side of the process. Some days you may feel uplifted and that you’re making real progress. There may also be moments during the training when it becomes frustrating, when you’re tired and emotions can run high - this is normal, and you are not alone! When we created Yoga Course, having been through training ourselves, we knew this would be the case, which is why we wanted to create an online Facebook community group, to lift you up when you need it, and share your accomplishments with us all.

You have a life away from your training that can also take over, of course, have busier days than some and so training can sometimes be pushed to one side for a while. That is, of course, the beauty of training online for over a year, you can pick it up as often as you want, or as little as you need. Of course to complete the training you have to have self-discipline (Tapas, Niyama) to continue your study (Svadhyaya, Niyama) - but if one year isn't quite enough there are options for an extension of your course to suit you and your circumstances.

After the yoga teacher training course
